2nd Annual High School Juried Art Show

The Mann Art Gallery is excited to present our 2nd Annual High School Juried Art Show!  The imagination, talents and hard work of the City’s youth is celebrated through this exhibition that features artworks from students that represent several schools from Prince Albert and surrounding area.  Creative expression allows individuals of all ages to interpret the world around them and to express their concerns, dreams and nightmares.  The diversity of work featured in this exhibit exemplifies the notion that inspiration comes in many forms and that art and art making allows us to share our unique experiences with others.

Every school within the Saskatchewan Rivers School Division No. 11 and the Prince Albert Catholic School Division who have students enrolled in grades 9-12 received an invitation to submit student work for consideration in the jury process.

The following factors were considered when selecting the works:

Demonstration of commitment to the artwork
Innovative use of the material
Creative use of subject matter
Interesting ideas behind the work
Aesthetically pleasing use of “design principles”
Evidence of risk taking
Demonstrated skill

Countless studies have proven the benefits of the arts in the lives of young people.  Creative problem solving, physical coordination, positive social behaviour and contextual understanding of other subjects are just a few of the positive outcomes that are attributed to participation in the arts.  The Mann Art Gallery is proud to work with educators of all levels in the community to provide workshops and opportunities for students to experience an enriched arts curriculum.

Classes

For information on booking classes, tours, or workshops please contact our Gallery Educator, Twyla Exner (educator@mannartgallery.ca). We provide interpretive tours of our current exhibition programming including art/craft related projects for children, youth, and adults year round.

Over 1000 students participate in school tours each year. Tours feature critical discussion of the artwork and a hands-on art activity, which allows the students to apply what was discussed and learned how to create an artwork of their own.

Each season the MAG develops a newsletter in the form of a Teacher’s Guide which explains the current exhibits and the planned student art activity. In addition, there are supplementary activities to build upon the ideas expressed by the art exhibitions and during the tours, with emphasis on cross-curriculum.
