The Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame recognizes citizens from our region who have made a significant and lasting impact on arts and culture within the community. This year, we are thrilled to congratulate Lana Wilson, a truly remarkable arts educator, manager, and administrator, for her induction into this group.
In fall 2024, Lana marked a milestone of ten years with the Mann Art Gallery (MAG), where she serves as our Manager of Education Programs. Over the past decade, she has played an instrumental role in shaping the gallery’s extensive visual arts programs, always focused on building lasting and meaningful connections with the community. Through her visionary leadership, Lana is creating opportunities for citizens of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to engage deeply with the arts.
Lana's unique ability to foster a love of art in Prince Albert comes from her genuine and heartfelt approach to communication. Driven by openness and curiosity, she takes the time to learn from the diverse people around her—understanding their histories, cultures, and personal experiences with the arts. By listening closely to local needs, she has been able to develop programming that reflects and celebrates the richness of our community. This inclusive approach ensures that everyone, no matter their background or ability, feels welcome to explore and create at the Mann Art Gallery.
In addition to her exceptional work in expanding the gallery's education programs, Lana has also taken bold steps to reframe the role of the gallery itself. She is actively working to dismantle the classist and colonial histories often associated with galleries, making art more accessible to all. For Lana, the act of creating and discussing art is a powerful way for our community to better understand regional and global issues, histories, and cultures. Her educational initiatives reflect this belief, offering a thoughtful and relevant perspective on the role of art in today’s world.
Lana’s contributions to Prince Albert are deeply rooted in generosity. She balances numerous responsibilities with grace and commitment, always thinking about the short- and long-term needs of the Mann Art Gallery and the local artists and communities she serves. Whether it’s through hosting inclusive workshops or creating pathways for new artists, Lana’s efforts have made galleries more inviting and creative spaces for all.
Her recognition in the Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame is a testament to her tireless dedication, and we could not be more proud to celebrate her achievements. Here’s to Lana Wilson—an arts leader who has made an indelible mark on our community and continues to inspire through her work.
